Nominations for state and federal spots began Monday and continues until 5 p.m. Friday, March 19. The filing period for county seats is March 8-31. Nomination forms will be available at the county auditor's office and need to be filed at that same office. CounVy officials whose posts expire at the end of this year are Treasurer Richard Heidloff, Recorder Eldon Kruse and Attorney Carl Petersen. Three super- visors' seats, Districts 1, 4 and 5, are also up for elec- tion. Currently holding those posts are Steve Michael #1, Randy Bosch #4 and Craig Block #5. Those interested in run- ning for office as a candi- date with either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party must file nomination papers to have their names placed on the primary election ballot. Feb. 23, 2010 Mary Peterson, 86, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at Good Samaritan Luther Manor. Mass was Friday, March 26, at Christ the King Parish, Sioux Falls. Agnes Mary Anderson was born March 16, 1923, in Lyon County, the daughter of William and Frances (Pendergast) Anderson. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Larchwood, then attended business college and was an insurance underwriter at Regan General Agency over seven years. She later graduated from the School of Practical Nursing and worked as a licensed practical nurse. On Oct. 14, 1950, she married Darrell Peterson. During his military career, the family lived in five states, Far East and Europe. Her husband died Aug. 9, 1997. She was a member of Elks widows. Survivors include two sons, Tom and Jim, both of Sioux Falls; one grandson and one sister, Esther Waldo of Colorado Springs, Colo. She was preceded in death by her par- ents; husband; one granddaughter; three brothers, Raphael, Maurice and Joseph, and three sisters, Ruth Kramer, Rita Boer and Josephine Swacina. Arie Van Veldhuizen 81 Rock Valley, Iowa Feb. 24, 2010 Arie Van Veldhuizen, 81, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Whispering Heights. Services were Monday, March 1, at Netherlands Reformed Congregation, Rock Valley, with interment in Valley View Cemetery. Mr. Van Veldhuizen was born Feb. 26, 1928, at Artesia, Calif., the son of Aart and Cornelia (Brouwer) Van Veldhuizen. On June 19, 1951, he married Joan Hoogendoom at Doon. She died June 21, 1974. On April 19, 1977, he married Hermina Spaans at Corsica, S.D. They farmed near Doon until moving to the Rock Valley area in 1983. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James and Robert, both of Rock Valley; seven daughters, Mrs. John (Susan) Bander ofGlendo, Wyo., Mrs. Dick (Kerry) Spitler of Greeley, Colo., Mrs. Peter (Arlyce) Den Boer of The Colony, Texas, Mrs. Gary (Julie) Klarenbeek of Auburn, Ala., Mrs. Alan (Avis) Bakker of Hull, Mrs. Thomas (Paula) Maassen of Rock Valley and Mrs. Thane (Rebecca) Fluit of Inwood; three stepsons, Harlan Spaans of Corsica, David Spaans of Sioux Center and Larry Spaans of Rock Valley; 42 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Peter of Sioux Fails, S.D., and Cornie of Inwood, and one sister, Mrs. George (Jennie) Rus of Rock Valley. He was preceded in death by his par- ents; first wife; one son, Joel; two daugh- ters, Jane Van Hill and infant Amy; four brothers, Jasper, John, Arthur and Joe, and one sister, Dora Koops.
